An Independent Internal Control Department, which reports directly to the Chairperson, is constituted for the internal control and monitoring of the application and keeping of the Internal Operation Regulation. This section submits an annual report including conclusions and proposals for improvement regarding the modus operandi of IEP to the Chairperson.

A public school teacher or contracted staff could be appointed as director of the section for four years, following a public call for expression of interest, according to 33404/Η/27-3-2012 Joint Ministerial Decision of the Minister of Finance, Minister of Education, Lifelong Learning and Religious Affairs and the State Secretary of Administrative Reform and E-Government (Β΄ 947) upon selection criteria defined by the Governing Board decision.
