The Primary Education Unit deals with issues related to the pre-school age (4-6 years old) and the school age of primary school pupils (6-12 years old). It advises on issues relating to the curricula of nursery and primary schools, accompanying educational materials (e.g. the Nursery Teacher’s Guide), primary school textbooks, the Weekly Timetables for nursery and primary schools and other issues relating to the proper functioning of nursery and primary schools.
In addition, it recommends – following questions – to the Department of Parliamentary Control (TKE) of the Ministry of Education and Culture, and gives its opinion on the implementation of programmes implemented by various institutions, e.g. universities or research carried out by postgraduate students or doctoral candidates in the field of pre-school and primary education.
Within the framework of its responsibilities, the unit may design and implement research in the field of pre-school and primary education and participate in funded or co-funded projects relating to this particular level of education.
