George Ε. Baralis
Associate Professor, Faculty of Primary Education, School of Education, National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, Vice-President of Institute of Educational Policy.
George Ε. Baralis was born in Rhodes in 1954 and he is an Associate Professor at the Faculty of Primary Education (School of Education, National and Kapodistrian University of Athens). He graduated from the Faculty of Mathematics (University of Patras) and he obtained his Ph.D. from the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens. His professional and academic interests focus on the role of Mathematics in education and on the instruction of Mathematics in schools.
He has more than 25 years of experience in Secondary Public Education (all grades of junior high school, high school and experimental high school).
In tertiary education, he has been teaching since 2003 at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens and he has also taught at the University of Thessaly, at the Maraslean Teaching Center, at the Academic and Professional Primary Teachers’ Training Center and at the Regional Training Center of Piraeus.
He served as school principal in junior high schools and he was also member and deputy treasurer at the Hellenic Mathematical Society and President of the Mathematics Competition for primary students “Game and Mathematics” (Hellenic Mathematical Society).
He took part in the Research Center for Assessment and Educators’ Training of the Hellenic Mathematical Society (2001-2006), focusing on the Mathematics National Curriculum for Primary Education. He also coordinates the field of National Curricula and Primary Educators’ Training at the same Research Center (2009-2021).
He also participated in the authors’ team of the school book “Mathematics” for the fifth grade of primary school.
He has published various research papers at international and Greek scientific journals and conferences.
